Psychiatric Evaluation
Treatment begins with a comprehensive assessment of your past and current symptoms, as well as a discussion about your goals for the future. It may also involve, with your permission, contacting other providers, family members, or friends, who can enhance the understanding of your current concerns. This process is integral to formulating an initial treatment plan, which may include psychotherapy, medication management, or both.
Psychotherapy
I am currently a candidate in the Adult Psychoanalytic Training Program and a graduate of the Psychodynamic Psychotherapy Training Program through NYU School of Medicine affiliate Psychoanalytic Association of New York (PANY). The premise of the Psychodynamic approach to therapy is that early experiences shape the way you view life and approach anxiety, challenges, and relationships. Working within this framework, you will begin to recognize and make sense of repetitive patterns of thought and behavior and how they are interfering with your progress. Other therapeutic approaches I use are Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and Motivational Interviewing. I also teach breathing and relaxation techniques as behavioral strategies to manage your symptoms. I recommend therapy 1-2 times per week for the best results.
Medication Management
I prescribe psychotropic medications when necessary or as useful adjuncts to psychotherapy for symptom management of anxiety, mood disorders, impulsive behaviors, binge eating, smoking cessation, and more. I am committed to getting to know you beyond the symptoms being treated by medication, and am careful to only prescribe medications when needed to optimize your health. I often help people eliminate medications that are no longer useful or efficacious. If you are already in therapy, I will work collaboratively with your therapist to manage your psychiatric medications to the best effect.
